Lingnow provides 1 on 1 online English lessons. We try to keep our system simple, easy-to-use and accessible for all English learners. After you decide which course you would like to take, you should book a free trial lesson. You will need to fill an intake form so we can learn the necessary details about your current level, goals, weekly availability and so on. When booking a free trial lesson, please examine the availabilities of different tutors and choose the one that best suits your schedule. During the trial lesson our tutor will assess your level and demonstrate how the course will take place. If you are satisfied with the trial lesson, you can go ahead and purchase a subscription. You can make a weekly schedule with your tutor and begin learning in a short time. Our lessons are 50 minutes long, currently take place over Zoom, and you can cancel your subscription when you feel you have had enough lessons. Simple as that!

We can answer that question with one word. Value. Consider us similar to the boutique restaurant in your neighborhood. We have strict criteria in choosing our tutors, such as academic & professional experience, technical skill in using online tools and material, and having a real passion for teaching English. That is not all. As we have a relatively small amount of tutors and students, we are able to follow each course and assess your progress. There are best practices that should be followed in teaching any subject, and students are not always aware of these. A good example would be: noting down language points where a student’s English might be weak, and regularly observing the student’s progress to make sure that the lessons are effective. We take your investment very seriously, and leaving all the responsibility to a single tutor would not meet our standards. That is why our Education coordinator regularly receives feedback from the students and tutors, and checks the courses to see all the best practices are being followed. If a student is not making the progress we aim for, the coordinator checks how the sessions are taking place and gives advice to both the student and the tutor so that lessons are optimized. This way there is a quality-assurance system between the tutors and the Education coordinator. This system allows us to deliver English courses with great value. We believe that the personal bond between a student and a tutor is an important factor in the effectiveness of private tutoring. That is why we will do our best so that you have the same tutor throughout your course (if you do not demand a change, in which case we can consider it together).

We are an international team, and we have tutors from all over the world. To give a few examples, we have tutors from Canada, Argentina, Turkey, Spain, and Ukraine. This means that your tutor might not speak the same native language as you do, but our methods ensure that if your level is above A1, you will get maximum value out of your lessons.

While we give our customers the option to choose a tutor based on availability, so that their schedules match with that of the tutor, we do not allow requests for being matched with a particular tutor. If your preferred tutor has suitable availabilities, then feel free to book your lessons with them!

We get this question a lot. There are several factors a student must consider while choosing a good tutor, and our expertise tells us that nationality can be irrelevant depending on the expertise of the tutor. Some of the most important factors are:

• Whether the tutor has the necessary qualifications such as a B.A. in teaching English or a related field, a teaching certificate, a good deal of experience regarding your field of study and so on. This is probably the most important factor as speaking a language is not the same as beaing able to teach it. Teaching is a craft and involves very sophisticated skills. Your tutor should be an expert in these skills.

• Your tutor’s use of English. The tutor should have a C2 level of English, preferably a neutral accent, very clear pronunciation, and they should be able to bring their English level down so that you can understand everything they say. We leave it to you to consider to what extent that can be related to nationality.

• Whether the tutor is familiar with the Anglophone culture (American, British and International) is also important. Language goes hand in hand with culture, and being exposed to the culture is one of the most essential elements of learning English. Your tutor should be able to create opportunities for you to interact with the culture as much as possible. Books, movies, series, tv shows, podcasts, all can be learning material.

• The tutor’s personality. This is especially important in 1 on 1 lessons as your motivation to learn will be directly linked to the connection you have with the tutor. Your private tutor should be able to understand your character to a certain extent, and make the lessons interesting and engaging for you. For example, if you are having speaking lessons but it becomes difficult to find things to talk about, your lessons might not be %100 effective. If you are excited to see your tutor to discuss recent developments in your life, or that movie you just watched, learning becomes so much easier.

  So please take all of these factors into account while choosing an English course.
